Change the Meaning of the Past

“We must abandon completely the notion of blaming the past for any kind of situation we’re in, and reverse our thinking and see that the past always flows back from the present — that now is the creative point of life. So you see, its like the idea of forgiving somebody, you change the meaning of the past by doing that. Also, watch the flow of music. The melody as it’s expressed is changed by notes that come later. Just as the meaning of a sentence — you wait till later to find out what the sentence means. The present is always changing the past.”

    This was deep Aimee.
    I’ve always loved Alan Watts
    and how he disseminates. Gonna
vibe on this one for a while as he said
    a lot here.

    Give thanks,

Very deep post. Familiar with Alan Watts. Have a couple of books by him but always great to listen to.

I am not a native speaker and some (important) parts are not very well to understand – is there a written (full) text of this speech somewhere? I´d be delighted!
    Peace out!

    • Hi Jo,
I tried my best to find this lecture transcribed & all I could find was that paragraph. Many of Alan Watts’ lectures & books are available as free PDFs on the internet. Here is a link for you to explore: PDF Google Search
You will probably find this exact lecture in one of those PDFs. But you might have to browse through quite a bit of information.
Have fun exploring. :) I know you’ll come across lots of great stuff.
